ôbaxé-music

The term „ôba“ originates from the west-african Yoruba-language and means „king“.
It is also the name of an african river-deity („obba“)( (oder „river-goddess“).
„axé“ (african: „ase“, cuban: „ache“) comes from the afro-brazilian „Candomblé“-religion and hast he meaning of „universal energy“the energy which is inherent in everything.

The meaning of the double-axe as a symbol:
In the Brazilian Candomblé and in the Cuban Santeria, the double-axe is the symbol of a very important deity:
Xangó, the Oricha of thunder, fire and justice (he is also the Oricha of the drummers).

The double-axe, however, exists for milleniums also in our European culture (e.g. in Crete, where it is a symbol of femininity, or in the Celtic mythology of the thunder god Thor). So it is a meanungful symbol in many cultures - and this is, among others, a reason for me to choose it as a sign. As a sign of strength and clearness. This is what for example the sound of the Djembé is for me.
